Update: On Saturday, we wrote about Sokoman Minerals Corp. (SICNF) (SIC.V). The stock performed well on Monday, moving up 19% on over 2 million volume in Canada. The stock remains cheap with a market cap of only 15 million. We expect SIC to continue to move up this week on a strong gold price and hype over what the company is doing. SIC management is holding a series of investor meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. You can sign up for them here

Back in 2018, we wrote about the incredible run on Sokoman Minerals Corp. (SICNF) (SIC.V) after it announced High-Grade Gold Intersections at its Moosehead Project in Newfoundland. Shortly thereafter we went bullish on BTU Metals Corp. (BTUMF) (BTU.V) after Great Bear Resources Ltd. (GTBAF) (GBR.V) drilled some incredible results in Ontario. In two short years, Great Bear has risen close to a billion dollar market cap in Canada and BTU has been one of the hotter gold and mineral exploration stocks in pursuit of its own large finds. We think now is an opportune time to load up on SIC as Newfoundland has taken a back seat to Ontario properties near Great Bear and the Golden Triangle in Alaska as well as other hot spots in British Columbia in the minds of investors. A lot of gold stocks have gone on a wild ride after famous junior gold investor Eric Sprott disclosed an ownership stake. The most prolific one lately has been Freegold Ventures Limited (FGOVF) (FVL.TO). He disclosed a 16.1% stake in FVL. Sprott also owns 17.2 million shares in SIC, representing a 14.1% stake on a non-diluted basis. He owns 13.35 million warrants too:

So his percentage ownership in SIC is quite similar to the one in FVL, but because the FVL purchase is recent news, this is the one that has all the momentum. We don't think that SIC will be overlooked for long. SIC just did a non-brokered private placement at $0.115, higher than Friday's close. An insider participated in $300,000 of the total offering.

SIC did go on a fairly strong run from $0.06 to as high as $0.19, but recently announced Phase 5 drill results caused a pullback and this buying opportunity. These results weren't as jaw-dropping as some in the past (though still very good), which resulted in the pullback as fickle hype and momentum traders dumped the stock. This enabled us to re-enter into a position cheaply. The stock showed signs of a rebound on Friday as it increased 17% to $0.105 on 2.5 million volume. Further drilling will continue in August, which means the hype traders will start to come back in like they have for all other gold exploration stocks that have the drills turning. We expect SIC to head to $0.25 on hype and good results in the near term. A $0.25 stock price still leads to only a $30 million market cap which is peanuts compared to the valuations other gold explorers are getting.

Disclosure: We are long SIC.V
